2-dress Bride

Never thought I'd be one. I said, "By far, this was the easiest party of wedding planning for me." Then, I had a bit of size and color drama. THEN, that got sorted and I said, "While still knocking on wood, I think I can safely say that the dress drama is pretty much over."

However, never say never, right? After all that, something was just not quite right about my dress. I tried it on and tried it on and never felt that "wow" feeling. I didn't expect fireworks, but I wanted to look in the mirror and say, "Oh, I love it!"

Then one day, I tried it on and was experimenting with the length a bit. I pulled the hem up to about knee-length and went, "Oh, I love it!" So, after a four-hour round trip drive to the J. Crew in Chestnut Hill during rush hour, I returned the long dress and ordered the bridesmaid version (i.e. knee-length, above) in ivory. It came shortly thereafter and it's perfect. :)

I took the tags off and had it pressed last week, so there's no going back now! Dress drama - managed.*

Wedding Math

OK, so we're currently 10 days out. We have a list of 21.5 wedding tasks remaining (one task is half done). Not counting the wedding day, we have 9 days to do them in. If we do 2.3 wedding tasks per day, we're golden! ;)

Timeliness

So it turns out that attempting to plan a wedding and work four jobs and mourn a grandfather and celebrate family birthdays and graduations and attempt to keep up with three blogs . . . means something's gotta give. In this case, it was the blogs, clearly. Which I guess is fitting. All of those other things are much more important.

However, we're now 17 days out and I want to be more involved! More with the writing of the wedding details! So as an apology and a way to ease back in, here is a small selection of my bridal shower pics, only about five weeks late. ;)

I was surprised! I really was, despite having a
general suspicion that it was coming any day now . . . .

My friend since I was 4, Christie. She's pregnant now (hard to tell,
since she's such a skinny minny) and due with a boy in November!

My best friend/bridesmaid Rachel and one of my second mothers, her mom Lana

My best friend/bridesmaid Lissa and my sister/matron of honor Kristen. My sister did so much work for the shower, despite having two little boys and being really busy at work then. I can't thank her enough.

My wonderful mum, who worked very hard on the shower, too. She gave us a lovely quilt that belonged to my grandmother. Sniff.

They made me wear a floral crown thing. I hammed it up!

Our yummy cake!

With my bow bouquet (and my friend Marla's
bunny ears!) after the gifts were opened

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who attended and those who worked hard to make it happen! My grandfather passed just six days later, but we were able to carve this happy time out of our busy schedules and I know he was glad for that.

Not bad . . .

Not a bad view, huh? I'm in NYC this weekend for my bachelorette party and this is the view of the Empire State building from the roof deck at my friend/bridesmaid's apartment. From the other side of the roof? Yes, Virginia, you can see all the way to the Statue of Liberty. :)

And so it goes . . .

My apologies for not posting now for almost two weeks. On Friday night, my dear grandfather passed away after a fairly recent cancer diagnosis. I've been spending the weekend with my family, both mourning his death and celebrating his life. Will try to work my way back here soon. Thanks for your patience.
